Dear Regional USA members
There has been a flurry of activity in the last 24 hours over the question of the location for the 2010 USA Nationals. To make a long story short, there are two bids for the nationals – one from Jim Alloway and the Mid Ohio Schutzhund Club to hold it in Columbus, Ohio, and the other from Tim Burke and the Blue Tahoe Schutzhund Club to hold it outside Reno in Carson City. The Executive Board has a motion on the floor for a vote for one of these two host/locations, and that vote expires on next Tuesday (March 16). I am getting lots of input from around the country but would rather have input from my region before voting on this issue. Please contact me at wjonesk9 at gmail dot com with your opinion.
Thanks!!

Dear Sportsfriends,
I am sorry to have to tell you that our Director of Judges, Mark Przybylski, passed away from a heart attack early this morning. Mark was a good friend to the sport, the breed and our organization, as well as personally befriending and mentoring many of us. The funeral home is sponsoring a guest book where you may view and share rememberances and condolences here.

Dear Sportsfriends,
First, let me express my gratitude and humility at the expressions of confidence I’ve received from a number of you. I hope to be able to provide prompt and responsive service to the region. My goals are simple: facilitate the scheduling and holding of trials for all the clubs in the region, and provide as many opportunities for the members in the region as possible, all with as open a communication channel as I can.
Second, I want to thank the members and delegates and clubs that either communicated with Willie, Sara, and myself or showed up at the meeting to conduct our regional business. Because of your efforts, we have filled all of the required officer positions, and have bids for all three regional events. I very much appreciate that Sara Wallick and Heidi Theis will continue in their respective offices of Treasurer and Breed Warden, and that Willie Pope will take the dual role of Assistant Regional Director and Regional Training Director. I would also like to welcome Emily Carté as our new Regional Secretary, and thank Joyce Westgard for her work in this role over the past biennium. Marion Franke is stepping down from her capable role as Regional Youth Director, and I failed to try and fill this important position at the meeting – please let me know if you are interested in this!
Three clubs deserve recognition: Cascade Schutzhund Verein for hosting the 2010 Regional Helper Seminar, Willamette Valley Schutzhund Club for hosting the 2010 Regional Conformation Show and Rose City Working Dog Association for hosting the 2010 Regional Championship.
Finally, I must extend my thanks to Jack Smith and Lynne Lewis and Lila Reno for their work with the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club in putting on the 2009 Regional Championship. While the entry was small, the venue was excellent and the tracking was beautiful.
Congratulations to Mark Gomersall and Dago for their victory as Regional Champions, to all the schutzhund entries for their sportsmanship and to all of the BH entries for attaining the BH. Judge Lance Collins was meticulous in his judging and critiques, and put all the handlers at ease while exacting high standards for performance. (We’re still trying to puzzle out how that circle/cross group thing works, though, Lance.… ).
Again my thanks for your support, and I look forward to working with all of you in the coming term.
Yours in the Sport,
Warren Jones
